Getting REGISTERED IN sam.gov

Additional Information

ABOUT SAM.GOV

The Integrated Award Environment (IAE) facilitates the federal awards processes in multiple online systems, including the System for Award Management, or SAM.gov.  Those systems are used for registering to do business with the federal  government, listing contract opportunities, capturing contractor  performance, viewing contract data, searching assistance listings,  reporting subcontracts, and more.

The  System for Award Management (SAM.gov) is an official website of the  U.S. Government. There is no cost to use SAM.gov.  Eventually, SAM.gov  will offer a single login to navigate the federal award lifecycle.  Today, you can use this site to:

  • Register to do business with the U.S. Government
  • Update, renew, or check the status of your entity registration
  • Get a Unique Entity ID
  • Search for entity registration and exclusion records
  • Search for assistance listings (formerly CFDA.gov), wage  determinations (formerly WDOL.gov), and contract opportunities (formerly  FBO.gov)

  • What you need to get started:
    • banking information
    • taxpayer identification number
    • sales per year average for the past three (3) years
    • total number of staff (full and part-time) for the past 12 months
    • point of contact information including phone numbers, addresses, and emails
  • Federal statistical agencies use the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) to classify businesses in order to collect, analyze and publish data related to the US business economy.  This four (4)-digit code is used to group commodities into groups  and/or classes. The US government uses these codes to describe the      products, services and R&D they’ve purchased to gain an understanding  of what they purchase and from whom.
  • EIN Number this number is completely  free and acts like a personal social security number for your  business.
  • CAGE  Code. The Commercial and Government Entity Code is a five (5)-character ID number that’s necessary for any company seeking to win federal government      contracts.
  • Notarized  Letter. All new  registrations to SAM.gov must submit a notarized letter appointing an “Entity Administrator.” It’s important to make sure that the person with this designation is someone who can make commitments on behalf of the      company. Typically this is a person who holds an executive, officer or partner position. This letter will need to include a wet signature and be mailed to the designated address listed within the registration.

         *Be Prepared

         *Be Organized
*Be Patient. Unfortunately, in our experience, response times fluctuate between organizations. Per information found within each organization, you can expect a response in up to:

Two (2) weeks for SAM.gov
10 days for CAGE Code
Three (3) days for EIN Number
